Artists who inspire me. Part 2

F is for Fabulous! A look at English bands whose music has been influential to me…

Florence and the Machine

An English Indie rock band formed in 2007 that rose to prominence after being promoted as part of BBC Music Introducing

I love the dramatic musical productions, the honest lyrics, and the way Florence’s powerful vocals drive the songs.

The way she shares her deepest feelings resonates with me, heartfelt words coming straight from the heart as brutal truths are laid bare.

Each song is designed to be like a symphony as the orchestral build-up carries the vocal which soars until the very end, it’s pure magic.

I’ve often danced at home to my favourite Florence songs including ‘Shake it out’ from the Ceremonials album.

The line ‘And it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back’ reminds me of a song I remember singing in the school morning assembly at my primary school.

In my Live Shows on Facebook & Instagram in 2020, I sang several of the songs from the ‘Lungs’ album which moved me at the time.

The album ‘How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful’ had some wonderful songs that were tales of her struggles and conflicts during a time of turmoil for Florence that somehow still manage to come across so sweetly even though she described herself as ‘spiralling’ then.

In honour of my brother’s transcendence in 2021, I recorded my take on her version of ’Stand by Me’ for my family.

Their latest album is just as punchy, the song ‘My Love’ with its reference to the empty billboards and buildings in the lockdowns of the past few years; shows the power that music has to draw attention to issues and shed alternative light on certain situations.

It’s how I love to make music too, to engage with my feelings and contemplations & challenge conventionality.

I am inspired by Florence and the Machine.

Faithless

An English band from the 90s whose beats accompanied my night and daytime car journeys as well as in my bedroom dancing sessions ;)

‘Insomnia’, ‘God Is A DJ’ & ‘We Come 1’ are the most classic songs for a generation who couldn’t ‘get no sleep’ and so just kept on dancing their nights away and will probably be re-lived for much, much longer.

The music style is often regarded as political and the latest 2020 album focuses on Immigration as its main theme.

Their fifth album To All New Arrivals’ was inspired by the birth of band members Sister Bliss’s son & Rollo’s young family who would grow up in uncertain times of conflict and global poverty.

The band has produced 10 albums plus worked with several other well-known artists, making famous collaborations and touring worldwide.

An impressive bio for a primarily electronic dance music band, they’re right at the top of my list of artists/bands I’d love to create with, fingers x’d!

Pink Floyd

Simply put, I just fell in love with the music this band has produced.

The English psychedelic rock band who formed in 1965 are distinguished by their extended compositions, sonic experimentation, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate live shows which are epic!

Their sound is timeless, it’s still being relayed around the world over and over again, especially in India where I’ve heard it repeatedly either being played in its original form or being covered by local artists & touring foreign musicians alike!

Their iconic albums Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, A Momentary Lapse of Reason & The Division Bell are some of my most played favourites.

Their music will continue to rock the world, which is amazing and so right.

Artists who inspire me. Part 1.

As part of a new series where I share my influences & favourite artists, here are four Superstars I love <3

Ladyhawke

After being likened this month to the fabulous female artist, I started researching her & promptly downloaded the full discography on Spotify. The 80s synth-pop electronic sound drives the songs & her voice carries the lyrics fluidly over the music. Like me, she’s influenced by an eclectic range of other artists & music. Like me, she draws on real-life emotions & situations in her text; singing about her struggles with anxiety, depression & the diagnosis of Asperger’s syndrome. In her most recent album, she offers a new take on her dialogue as she talks about love, relationships & heartbreak. I love her sound & her direct honest lyrics. I respect the way she makes music & how she writes. Simply put, I’m a big fan!

P!nk

I recently saw the documentary film released in 2021, called P!nk: All I know so far.

It’s a behind-the-scenes look at her as she balances family & life on the road, leading up to her first Wembley Stadium performance on the 2019’s Beautiful Trauma world tour.

I’ve always liked her songs though now I can relate to her even more than ever before. Maybe it’s because I’m about to send some stronger messages with my music or maybe it’s because now I’m also a Mother who wants to keep making music and performing.

She’s an extremely strong woman with superb style, whose passion for performance art as well as singing for the people who love her songs is untameable!

Her tours are extravagant, she flies through the air suspended by harnesses and wires like no one else in the pop scene & her family is along for the ride the whole time. Her children are dancing around at rehearsals, singing along & her young daughter is even appearing on stage at shows as a guest performer.

Although we are different in more than a few ways, I can see myself in her and take a bit of her courage with me on this new leg of my own musical life as I stand proudly tall whilst sharing my latest songs with the world.

Elvis Presley

I watched the 2022 Musical drama Film about the life of one the all-time greatest artists who performed for millions of screaming fans.

Wow, what phenomenal viewing! An intriguing portrayal of a gentle soul who had the power to move women to tears, throwing their nickers on stage & driving men to offer big bucks to have him play at their concert halls. All this and more whilst staying rebellious during a time when black people were considered to be lower caste citizens compared to white men & when it was deemed ‘devil's work’ to shake your hips to the music!

Of course, like many stars throughout the history of music; fame took its toll on the King of Swing-the King of Rock n Roll. The film shows how he was pushed by ego, drugs & money to become a different character from the shy, nervous young southern boy who first took to the stage.

The film depicts a lost, broken-hearted man in those last years without his wife & daughter beside him. He was consuming drugs to gain energy & allegedly given salt to reduce the sweating inside those suits wore whilst performing, dancing with full force & singing his heart out.

It seemed even more poignant to watch the film due to the report in the same week of the passing of his daughter, Lisa-Marie who was also a singer from cardiac arrest aged 54, some believe that she too had a broken heart.

Both of them were so young to depart & coincidental or maybe not as Elvis himself was only 42 when he died of cardiac arrest. Perhaps they are back together, happily & heartily singing away in the sky.

As I saw some of the footage from the funeral, as Pricilla Presley read the words of her Granddaughter for her Mother Lisa-Marie; I was reminded of my feelings at the loss of my Mum so unexpectedly at the relatively young age of 57. My Mum loved Elvis, MyAunt Amanda too who was also only 54 when she passed along with my Mum. My Grandmother still adores Elvis & surely relates to Pricilla in a way that Mothers shouldn’t have to.

Hearing how Lisa-Marie was considered a role model to many & the best guide for her daughter made me even more determined to continue pursuing my passion & following my musical dreams. For my Mum, for my son, for my family & for my friends. For all the people who tell me how much they love my songs & because they are empowered by them. And for myself :)

Celine Dion

Bless her!

I felt incredibly compelled to strive towards creating more music & making further recordings of compositions that I’ve stored in my collection when we heard a few weeks ago from Celine as she publicly announced that she would have to cancel her upcoming tour, speaking openly & emotionally about her battle against the rare illness; Stiff Persons Disorder.

I empathise with her pain, it’s clear that she is devastated at not being able to do the very things that she loves the most, singing & performing.

As a young girl growing up in the 90s, she was one of my idols. I got her album as a gift from my Mum and listened to it repeatedly, learning the words to every song from the booklet inside the cover & even successfully reaching the heights of her notes!

In one of the Live Shows I made on Facebook and Instagram in 2021, I sang a cover of her song ‘A Little Bit of Love’ a favourite track from the album I’d learned. I was pregnant & it was very fitting to my feelings at the time. Maybe with a little bit of self-love, she will be able to give herself time to recuperate & be able to go back to the stage as she has said she would like to. I send her warmth from my heart, as she has warmed so many with her songs and voice.

Charleesa's Looping!

My latest new musical toy this year is….

My brand new Boss 505 MkII Loop Machine

I have been interested in owning a loop machine for a very long time and I am so excited to now be using one to create a new kind of sound for Charleesa :)

I’ve been experimenting with the multitude of built-in rhythm patterns and drum kits and synchronising my loops with them. I have composed new tracks and already laid down the demo versions for studio recording of two songs!

I waited for this model to come in stock because it has 2 microphone inputs with the choice of using input FX for extra vocal possibilities and the chance to also put effects across the whole track!

So keep your ears open for what’s coming out next……

Music Creation Station in the Audio Play Room

A brand new fully functioning Music Creation Station where music can be made whenever I feel inspired is in use every day and I'm getting right into the swing of things again.

This is where the magic is made when composing new songs, preparing for studio recording days and where new videos and Live Sessions will take place.

There’s quite a collection of different instruments and now it is easy to pick one up to try out a rhythm or grab one of the various microphones and record demos of new songs and work on projects whenever the mood takes me which is so encouraging.

It’s wonderful to have achieved one of my dreams after so many years to have a really convenient station that isn’t in the way and that doesn’t need to be set up every time I am ‘in flow’ with a brilliant idea of a new melody or lyrics, which simply makes the whole process so much more joyful and productive.

I’m eager to bring out some new sounds and get back to work in my musical world after the Sacred Summer Pause and apply all of the new found inspiration that I have gathered that it will be transported into the sound.

LMTD (Dreamin') - Lucidity Mix Now on Soundcloud

LMTD (Dreamin') - Lucidity Mix is now on Soundcloud!

When you like to hear music on this platform you will be delighted to know that you can now stream this alternative version and even listen to it offline too!

Recently added to the Music tab on the website this rare version is only available to buy here at the moment so if you want a copy this is the place to be ;)

LMTD (Dreamin') was composed in an apple orchard whilst I was picking fruit to supplement my travel fund. The lyrics are about the memories of the special place I stayed in during my first journey to the magical land and my dreams of how it would be when I was back there again.

The Lucidity Mix is an alternative version created whilst rehearsing for the studio recording day. A faster tempo of a solo guitar arrangement by Guy Mark Fitz inspired the production of this version and his vocals add a new element to the original song in this new song.

LMTD (Dreamin') - Lucidity Mix Uploaded!

LMTD (Dreamin') - Lucidity Mix has been uploaded to the Music section!

This alternative version of the original song LMTD (Dreamin’) was created whilst rehearsing for the studio recording day. A faster tempo of a solo guitar arrangement by Guy Fitz inspired the production of this version and his vocals add a new element to this new take. It was named Lucidity Mix because from a slow dreamy song we now had a much more lively pumped version that brought the listener back to lucidity.

The song is now available to listen to in the Music tab and if you like it you can now download a copy for a minimum of just 99p/c, you can’t get this song anywhere else as it hasn’t been officially released so it’s really quite a rare find on my website.

Here’s the direct link:

https://charleesa.com/track/2804985/lmtd-dreamin-lucidity-mix

*

The lyrics are slightly different to the original, I altered them to fit the tempo however all of my favourite lines are still there...

Leave me to dream, let me be, let me see

I can see thing’s how I want them to be

Eyes tight shut; I can picture it now

Satin sky, low gliding eagle, sun breaks through the cloud

I’m dreamin’, I’m dreamin’; I’m dreamin’ again………

I don’t wanna wake up no no no

I don’t wanna wake up

*

So the next time that you find yourself dreamin’ about what you want to do, try to visualise what it is that you want to see and draw yourself the perfect picture to focus on. Maybe you will have this song running through your mind too and I will wish that it will encourage you to keep turning your dreams into your reality…

LMTD(Dreamin’) gets Online Radio airplay!

Women of Substance plays LMTD(Dreamin’) on their Online Radio Show!

The jazzy dreamy song receives airplay on the 25th August in a playlist on their #1 Award Winning Podcast show which goes out on iTunes, as well as many other platforms and is heard by over 10,000 monthly listeners and promoted to over 60,000 social media followers.

That’s a big reach for a song that was recorded 8 years ago and is only available in a few places as it has not yet been officially released although I made CD’s featuring an alternative version and two videos, one from the recording day in the studio and the other of a live performance in a beautiful beach garden in Goa.

*

New listeners now get a chance to hear the words that I feel could really make a difference to people right now. I also want to make sure that more people get to hear the wonderful guitar work of Guy Fitz, this song is a beautiful collaboration that just has to be celebrated!

The story of the songs creation is that whilst picking apples in an orchard in England I started to think about my next travels back to a magical beach in India. All of the lyrics came to me along with the melody that day and I started singing it on a loop whilst picking and dreaming away.

I then worked on the song further in Goa that season and even sung it on stage accapella in Loekie cafe, a venue that had been famous for its Jam Sessions since the 1960’s; the cafe no longer exists although everyone remembers all the talented performers that had played there when it was only a bench where the musicians and singers sat to perform with no amplification at all.

Upon my return to England I met up with Guy and we started to bring the music to the lyrics and melody that I had created. We played our enhanced version of the song at our friends birthday party, some of our friends said they loved it and suggested that we add more sounds to it. So we started weekly practices during the summer seasons when we were all together. The Dreaming Song (as we all called it then) was the starting point of the formation of our own band, we learnt blues and jazz cover songs, created more songs together which I wrote the lyrics for and we played in local pubs in the area.

After a while I decided that I wanted to pursue more of my own music and as we went our separate ways, the other members formed a new band and I continued composing songs. I started performing more at various venues in India and Nepal whilst still creating new songs to add to my growing collection, some of which I later recorded in Vienna.

At the very ‘Cosy Studios’ in Kent, England in 2013, Guy and I recorded our version of LMTD(Dreamin’) plus an alternative version and I also had backing tracks made for live performances.

*

Later there were remixes made of the original song, one was created by an English friend in Berlin, he took the original stem files of my vocals and laid them over a dance track he had made. You can hear it on my Soundcloud channel, it’s a perfect beach bar song that can also be best used in a chilled mix to watch the sun go down with…

Music, Mummy & Milk - SuperNova Sounds

Listen to my new playlist on Spotify featuring my official releases

SuperNova Sounds

It’s more like a mix tape really, you know those ones from the good ole days that we made for our loved ones, a girlfriend or a boyfriend with all the songs that said the words we wanted them to hear, except that this one is made for my beautiful boy Elijah Nova who arrived in April.

It’s full of tracks that say how I feel about having him in my life with a few special messages from Mummy especially within my own songs ‘Climbing’, ‘Powerhouse’ and that happy one ‘Things to smile about’ which features the voice of his Grandmother Slinky.

Here are the songs and the reasons why they are in the playlist………

*

Top Of The World - Carpenters

When he was first placed in my arms such a feeling came over me, he was the nearest thing to heaven that I’d seen; my little angel.

‘Things are not the same… there is a pleasing sense of happiness for me… and the reason is clear it’s because you are here… you almost put me at the top of the world’

*

Your Song - Ellie Goulding

This version by Ellie is so sung so sweetly, I heard this when I was pregnant and it made me cry because it took on a deep meaning for me.

Because I love to sing from my heart whether it is my own composition or a cover song and I love singing this one too. When I play this to him I really identify with the emotion with which it was written and I like to sing:

‘Elijah darling; my gift is my song and this ones for you. You know, yours are the sweetest eyes that I’ve ever seen. So you can tell everybody this is your song, I hope you don’t mind that I put down in words, how wonderful life is now you’re in the world.’

*

Heaven Sent - Dina Carroll

My Mum bought me this album and I sang every song on it a thousand times, I often practised the songs alone when she was at work and sang them when she came home.

Mum went to cosmic heaven in 2019 and I often hear songs that I take to be signs from her, perhaps the impulse to remember this one was from her.

One day it popped into my head playing on the jukebox in my mind, it says so much of how I felt about the little life growing inside of me.

I had wished for Elijah and it’s as though someone in heaven sent him to me.

One of my favourite lines is:

‘’You came along made me so strong and showed me how sweet life can be’’

*

Sunny - Ayo

This one is super, he is such a sunny boy and this is such brilliant cover version of this wonderful song.

‘Your my spark of natures fire, you’re my one complete desire… Sunny one so true I love you’

*

You Are The Sunshine Of My Life - Stevie Wonder

I have loved this song forever and it’s been given to me more than once by various people. I love this because there are both male and female voices which is like Daddy and Mummy sing it to him.

‘You are the sunshine of my life, that’s why I’ll always be around….You are the apple of my eye… forever you’ll stay in my heart’

*

Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You - Andy Williams

My Mum loved him and we share a family name with him, so I felt it quite appropriate that this song is a message from Mummy & Slinky.

‘I wanna hold you so much…. can’t take my eyes off of you….. I love you baby’

*

Yes, I’m Your Angel - Yoko Ono

I love this beautiful song which was actually written by Yoko to John Lennon for his approaching 40th birthday.

I found this article online about it, here’s the link if you would also like to read it.

Yoko Ono Explains....

Because some songs can hold a different meaning depending on the listener and the moment, I give this one to Elijah from his Mummy who made a wish and it came true for her.

‘You’re my fairy, you gave me everything I ever wanted from life, and I made a wish and is that why I have you ... tralalala’

*

At Last - Etta James

When I was the lead singer for our band The Bloozy Toonz in England in my 20’s, I sang another song by Etta James which I loved and then my Grandmother suggested that I sing this one; upon hearing it I thought it was perfect and it really say all the right words.

‘You smiled and then the spell was cast…. For you are mine at last’

*

Close To You - Carpenters

Everyone wants to be close to a baby especially when they are very small and they want to be held by you too.

‘On the day that you were born the angels got together and decided to create a dream come true, so they sprinted moon dust in your hair and golden starlight in your eyes of blue’

*

Here Comes the Sun - Nina Simone

I just love Nina Simone’s voice and one of my standard cover songs to sing is ‘Feeling Good’ although I do kind of mix it together with the Muse version and that extra bit of me when I perform it.

‘It’s alright, here comes the sun little darling’

And so he does whenever he smiles and light me up.

*

Elijah - Donald Byrd

I found this cool jazzy number on Spotify whilst searching for a song named after him so it had to be included in the list.

*

Mama - Clean Bandit feat Ellie Goulding

This one gets me in the grooving mood when I am holding him. I feel that it is a perfect song for that moment when you realise how you feel now that you are becoming a Mum.

I can relate to the words when say sings about ‘all of these new emotions’ and then it resonates more with the lines ‘everything I thought I knew about me is upside down, everything is changing but I think I love it now’ which is really like me saying that I am happy with the new things that he brings to my life.

*

Powerhouse - Charleesa

A song by Mummy that reminds him to be himself because he has a powerhouse inside of him and the to let that light that is shinning out of his soul burn brightly for all to see.

*

Climbing - Charleesa

A song from Mummy to tell him to keep on moving & to keep climbing up that mountain.

*

Things To Smile About - Charleesa

This is the happy one from me to make him smile and feel great, with a special part at the end by his grandma Slinky so that he can hear her voice even when he can’t see her.

He is one of my biggest things to smile about :)

*

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious - From Mary Poppins by Julie Andrews, Dick Van Dyke & The Pearlie Chorus

This is a super fun song that my Mum liked, she loved making the most of the English language and used ‘big words’ whenever possible so I know that she would defiantly approve of teaching it to Elijah :)

With 34 letters it’s one of the longest English words and Dictionarys describe it as ‘a nonsense word, used especially by children typically expressing approval or something fantastic.

*

(Theme from) - The Monkees

Just a fun song for our little Monkey that I have always loved from the tv show.

*

End Of The Line - Travelling Wilburys

One of those songs with great messages to hear to guide you through for your whole life.

*

The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)- The Tokens

Who doesn’t love this song and dance around singing a Wimoweh a Wimoweh a weeaahhh Wimoweh ?

It’s perfect for times when babies are crying and need cheering up, or for nappy changes; or even to rock them to sleep with sometimes singing to them ‘hush my darling, don’t fear my darling the lion sleeps tonight’.

*

Three Little Birds - Bob Marley & The Wailers

This is my message to Elijah, ‘don’t worry about a thing, cause every little thing’s gonna be alright’ with lots of love from Mummy.

*

How Long Will I Love You - Ellie Goulding

Another beautiful song that can be used by every parent as a message to their children.

*

Over The Rainbow - Eva Cassidy

My Mum loved this song from the film The Wizard Of Oz which was her favourite movie.

I made a video of me singing a cover of Ariana Grande’s version and Mum loved it.

So this song is for Elijah from Slinky and also from me to tell that when I go to cosmic heaven as she has, that I will be just over the rainbow with her and always watching over him.

*

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face - Roberta Flack

This is such a powerful song even though it is sung in the most gentle way, it makes me remember how amazing it felt to look at Elijah for the first time and every time I watch him sleeping or cuddle him.

*

Edleweiss - The Macaroons Project

I found this lovely version of Edleweiss which is a song that means many things.

It is the white flower that grows high in the mountains of Austria and is one of the symbols of the country that we live in.

Elijah is like Edleweiss, precious, small and bright and Austria is his homeland.

I love these words…

‘Every morning you greet me… you look happy to meet me… may you bloom and grow forever’

Mum also sung this song with a friend as she played it on the piano and we both loved the film The Sound Of Music, in fact she gave it to me to watch when I was thinking about coming to live here.

*

A Hero Is Born - Elijah Nang, Kalaido

I found this peaceful music whilst searching for artists called Elijah and its a really pretty song to end the playlist with and it is also balm for the soul when a moment of calm is needed.

Elijah was doing his super hero impression as he was preparing to come out of his little Universe so this song seems really fitting to him. He often raises one arm as though he is preparing to fly off and to us, he is our little super hero. He has defeated the odds and gone over several hurdles along the way, whilst growing stronger every day; our beautiful boy is a star, the sunshine and a hero.

A Story About Giving …..

During my second journey to Pokhara in 2016, I decided to give my songs to people as a way to something back and share my music with local people & those I met along the way.

It was my second journey to the Nepal and when I returned to the country it was like stepping into the future whilst feeling like I was living in the past.

In their own calendar the year was 2073 though in so many ways life was and still is today, somewhat more traditional & like one of those old movies you watch where people lived a simple lifestyle. I fully enjoyed a laid back pace of things and all the pleasures of being in such close connection with the animals, community & the local families. The mountain air was fresh and the sun shone through so strongly even as the monsoon rain waters came down.

In a place where the culture is colourful, rich and varied; life is often devoted to praise and the many festivals for the Gods & Goddess’s. The sounds of bells and the collective morning chorus of the people of the villages singing beautiful songs rings through the valley reverberating from the hills. The views are stunning and the energy you feel reminds you of the awesome power of nature in this part of the planet that was created long ago by the shifting tectonic plates.

The region was struck by mighty earthquakes that year and many lost their lives by the destructive force of change. There was much rebuilding work during my visit and many travellers helped to build new homes and schools using ‘Earthbags’ which were made from soil to withstand any further tremors.

Teams of visitors who felt moved by what they saw in the area arranged various music and art events, all the proceeds raised were put into planting tree’s to protect some areas from land-slides. Although the people in the outer villages who have little or no possibilities to generate money and get very little help from their government still suffered, they continued to live in damaged houses barely surviving and living well below the poverty line.

It made me appreciate again just how wonderful it felt to be really present in life, it is often at times of great crisis when you really understand that everything you have can be gone in a second and you truly start to see the value in all the little things in this world more than ever. It was clear upon my first arrival in Nepal that these people already had that knowledge and lived according to their means, smiling even in the face of despair and being exceedingly caring hosts; sharing even their most meagre amounts of food and their homes with each other & strangers alike.

I wanted to give support in the best way that I could, due to time and visa restrictions I could not join the tree planting team however I could do something from my heart and through my music; I could gift songs to lift others when they need it the most.

I had recorded some of my songs in studios and had mp3 versions to share with people, the list included ‘Keep Climbing’ which was the first version of one of my songs that I had composed in Pokhara in 2012 during my first journey to Nepal whilst cycling back to my guesthouse through the inspirational mountain region of Pokhara after visiting Devi Falls & the Gupteshwor Mahadev cave with a friend.

The song, a powerful motivator, was about heading on up through life’s paths and reaching for the top. It had been recorded two years later in India with guitarist and friend Joe Ferrao and was now available to listen to online & given to people for free as a demonstration of the songs within me that I wanted the whole world to hear one day.

I had healed myself whilst in Nepal during both journeys, coming to the country after times of personal upsets and dramatic life changes, I had found solace in those mountains. I had met special beings who had offered me wisdom and friendship, often giving me more than they knew simply with the words they spoke or kindness that they showed me. The temples had been places of worship for them and for the ceremonies I had been invited to attend had given me a sense of peace which gave me the strength I needed to focus on my future, to find a way to see the new directions that I could take and to keep going forward in my life when it seemed the most challenging thing to do.

I had watched as the lights from the homes around the waters edge became ‘coloured shadows on the lake’ that were ‘reflected in the sky by stars’ and I had gone ‘up to a place where the track was steep & down inside a cave where the waters flowed deep’ and I had found that here in these places the world looked different, fresh and wonderful to me again.

I had hiked up to the World Peace Stupa with my Nepalese soul sister Sun Nita and later up to Sarangkot with Ruth Soderstrom, our taxi driver & porter and then again a second time with a few other new friends; each time I played my songs from my phone as we reached the top of the stunning places.

I went back to Devi’s Fall and got right down inside the cave with the Shiva temple inside with a few friends Kirst Campbell, Lea Grange, Bernard Grange & Andres Acuna, and played the song to them which delighted them all because we were actually in the amazing place that had inspired some of the lyrics.

Most people didn’t have computers or mobile phones to store or listen to my songs with, so I shared them in any way that I could. I gave them to cafe owners so that they would be played often and reach as many people as possible, I played them to people & I gave them to those who could store them on a device.

I sat on the lake at the Himalayan Café with the owner and his guests, sharing this song and two others that I had produced ‘LMTD’(Dreamin’) & the first demo recording of ‘Things To Smile About’ that I had made that year in India.

Everyone who heard the songs said how much they meant to them, asking if they could play them for their friends and families; for me it was the biggest reward that I could receive. The more people that could feel empowered, uplifted and happy just by listening to my songs; the better.

I was so inspired by my journey, my experiences and the positive response to my music during that season that I also created completely new songs, one of the songs I made ‘on the spot’ whilst performing one evening in the Friendship Café with Gencay Mut and other talented artists at a Live Jam Session.

Because my laptop would not connect properly to the sound system, I was unable to use the backing tracks for my own songs so I immersed myself in the sound of the beats of the musicians drums as they filled the room, drawing out a new vibration that flowed through me.

I began to sing about my healing and how I was feeling now, this is how the first rendition of my song ‘Powerhouse’ came to life. It’s all about realising that you have the power deep within to conquer a kind of darkness that we can all experience at certain times in our lives, allowing you to ‘see that the light as it’s shinning out of your soul’ which helps lead the way for yourself and also for others.

At a venue called Silk Road, I sang my songs at a live music event with Sunny Thapa, we sang cover versions of songs we both liked without any practice beforehand and created two songs of our own as we were ‘in the moment’ as the feeling was right. I was loving every minute of life in the now and it was one of those times when the music, text and melodies just kept on coming.

I continued to share my songs, giving them to various cafes and venues in Pokhara so that my music would be heard in the very place it was composed in. It felt very meaningful to me and I know that it meant a lot to everyone who listened, knowing that I had been so inspired by the incredible land called Nepal.

I later finished composing the song, co-created new music and recorded ‘Powerhouse’ in a small studio in Vienna. I also recorded a pop version of ‘Climbing’ with the same producer and later released both songs myself from my home office/studio.

Official lyric videos were made and are available to watch on YouTube and have helped people to feel empowered to keep going strong when they have been going through a difficult time. The video for ‘Climbing’ was released in January 2021 to support people through all the changes in life since the worldwide lockdowns.

I keep on making music, singing and having creative power surges even now when things seem a little crazy in the world or in life in general. I often find that I am most inspired when things are challenging or equally when they are so beautiful that I want to put it all into a song.

Music is one of the ways that I keep on moving upwards, it helps me to sing my way to the top of the highest mountain or that seemingly impassable block in the road. It gives strength, and that floating feeling you get when you find yourself so deep within the music and surrounded by the sound that you feel as though you are on a flying or lying on a cloud.

I share my music on streaming platforms, there are various videos on YouTube, I have made many Live Concerts for free on my Social Media channels, you can watch the replays in the video sections & you can get my songs here in the Music section of the website.

I am constantly reminded of those people who have in their own way supported me during my musical and healing life journey – thank you to everyone for all the guidance, comments and compliments.

If I am to leave something here when I have transcended my earthly body and travelled into Cosmic Heaven, it will be the energy that has shaped my soul and helped me to go further than at times I imagined that I possibly could.

May the music heal your heart, uplift your spirit and support your growth for many years to come <3

Bio Update - New Inspirations

Like the weather or the world - We are ever changing, ever evolving beings <3

The same goes for my own inspirations as now reflected within my updated biography :)

You will see that the wording is more concise for an easier read plus there is some new information there now such as some of my own new musical influences....

I recently discovered a new fellow artist who I feel so in alignment with - FIA

Her music and her words mean so much to me and resonate highly with my own views & feelings. I just love the way that she shares all that she has learnt so far on her spiritual journey which is so clear by the language that she uses to express her deepest gratitude for life & our beautiful Mother Earth.

Anyone who follows teachings of gurus or public speakers such as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi the founder of Transcendental Mediation, Swami Sivananda, Eckhart Tolle, Deepak Chopra, Abraham, Esther & Jerry Hicks or Louise Hay will have read or heard such glorious speeches about loving yourself, conscious behaviour, respectful & compassionate communication, living in the now, letting go of all that no longer allows you to live according to your truth or that serves your highest good.

These are the words which I choose to hear and to take onboard throughout my own life and those which have inspired my own writings in my newsletters, my communications in my daily life and within both my Mama's and my own lyrics, poetry & artwork.

We are all One - We are beings of Light - We have the Power within Us - Love is Everything

You will find her songs featuring in my Spotify Playlists along with many other favourite artists who I resonate with in one way or another.

I share songs in my playlists on Spotify & YouTube to bring you sounds that heal, sounds that motivate, songs to inspire growth, songs to dance to, songs to lift you up & songs to sing along to <3

So I wish that whenever you require a song for the moment that you find the appropriate one within one of my playlists - links to which you will find across my website for as FIA sings:

''When I go I want to know that I left it all on table''

''I wanna be remembered with Love''

''Leaving behind my Legacy of Light''

<3

So if you want to find out who or what inspires me to make music & how or why I do it...

Hear songs that have inspired me throughout the years to keep rising through all challenges and also those songs that simply make me feel good, including music from different decades & genres in a kind of Charleesa's Radio Station or Jukebox style :)

The list is compiled in an order of the messages I wanted to send however its also great to play on shuffle and be surprised at which tune rocks you next, this can be fun to do when you are home alone sometime too

Listen in the shower and sing along like I do, walk with it, exercise to it or drive along the highway blasting it out on the Sound system giving others something to smile about when you pull up at the traffic lights singing your head off ;)

However you choose to play it there will be a song for everyone to make you feel inspired <3

*

As the artists tell us with their words and sounds:

We have ‘The Key, The Secret’ to feel the ‘Sunshine After The Rain’ and the ‘Thunder’ and you might find that ‘Maybe Tomorrow’ is a ‘Beautiful Day’

D-ream that ‘Thing’s will only get better’ now for ‘The only way is up’ baby for you and me now!

Whatever is happening in your world there’s always a reason to fulfil your destiny & become a ‘Survivor’

Be a ‘Believer’ put down your roots like an ‘Apple Tree’ stand tall and be ’Proud’ to be a ‘Daydreamer’

Chase ’The Sun’ all the while ’Spinning Around’ and feel ‘Lifted’ because everything will be ‘Alright’

Sometimes you might have to walk ‘5 Mile’s and get ‘Lost to be found’ to see that ‘All the Colours’ where there shining for you all the time :)

So ‘Hold Your Colour’ & ‘Do Your Thing’ ‘Don’t Stop Moving’ and keep on ‘Climbing’

And in the end you can surely relax because you will be heading in the right direction when you realise that:

We are here in this ‘Existence’ to ‘Recieve’ all the things we dream of anyway :)

We only have to know what we want & where we want to go and to do our best to work towards our goals just a little bit more every day :)

The Universe will support us with the rest <3

Enjoy the music & Pass it on <3

Keep on moving and reaching out for the sun!

HNY 2021 - Great Things About 2020

Happy New Year 2021

A Look Back on 2020 in Charleesa's musical world!

What a great year for my music really! As an independent artist there is so much to do to get your music heard by the public in this changing world of the industry. As we left 2020 & entered into 2021 I decided to put a positive spin on last year and add up all the good things that happened even during a time of uncertainty for many of us in both our daily and professional lives, here's what I remembered....

New Releases, Playlists, Fruition of Future Plans & Projects

plus New Streamers & YouTube subscribers, Fan Videos & Website Reviews

Climbing became my fourth song to be officially released on December 11th 2020 and had a great response which rolls on into this year too!

My Newsletter readers got the song free as my gift for their valued support with their Climbing Christmas Special Edition on 25th December and as a digital release so far the song has been streamed 201 times already on Spotify.

It was featured in the Female Indie ARTists playlist on Spotify made by fellow singer/songwriter/performer Maryen Cairns which has been played & saved many times now by followers from around the globe including Austria, Australia, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Spain, Portugal, Estonia & Israel.

Since its release in December Climbing has already had its first fan video placed on social media. The awesome body popping dancer Kapriza shared his delight at the groove of the track when he started showing his moves on a private movie clip that has already had multiple shares and hundreds of views so far.

*

Powerhouse was the most played song from my collection of single releases in 2020, not including all the times it's been sung at Live Sessions at almost every show since June on Facebook & Instagram. I loved being able to give people the strength they needed during 2020 and the words took on a special meaning for many people as they wrote to tell me whilst I was performing how much that it was helping for them to listen to these lyrics as if I was singing directly to them, which I was in my ‘Everythings Fine In Sunland’ shows on Friday evenings; the reason for Going Live was indeed to provide light relief from a time in all of our lives when we often felt apprehensive and confused.

It became the most streamed song on Spotify and bought me new listeners from 21 different countries with Argentina now being the place with the highest amount of new followers which I owe in the most part to ‘a little help from my (Latin American) friends’ sharing with people in their homeland by including it in their own playlists. It was the very first song to be included in the Female Indie ARTists playlist and it's been the lead song in my own powerful playlist on the the platform titled 'You Are Love' by Charleesa since its release in December 2018.

Powerhouse was my 1st ever 'Official Lyric Video' on my YouTube channel gaining me more subscribers than any other video and is currently the most played video which can also be downloaded from my 'Rare Offers Store' space on the website for a few gold coins that go right back into my 'Future Music Fund' for recording more of my songs. The song is the one that is featured on my business cards because it’s the one that all Newsletter club members receive for free when they Sign Up on my artist Homepage and is the most empowering song that I've ever composed.

All pretty successful stuff for a song that I releasing myself with cdbaby and promoted from my bedroom office in a shared house in 2018!!!

Each time someone says how much they love the song or adds it to their playlist or tell me that they were dancing in their living rooms whilst I was singing it because the grooves compels them to move, I feel proud and fulfilled in my life’s mission to bring joy & heal through my music.

*

‘Things to smile about’ and the other three officially released singles plus ‘In Sunland’ which until now was only available to stream from Soundcloud or on YouTube were all added to my Music Tab on the website this year. You will also find my un-officially released singles LMTD (Dreamin’), Keep Climbing The Gypsy Jazz Version & The Spanish Groove Version there.

*

I added a Guestbook to my website and in the first few weeks there were some very beautiful reviews for my music from people that have watched me perform live from throughout Asia and Europe. The most recent comment was in December by a wonderful friend and massage therapist from America who is currently in Peru that I met a few years ago in India who gave me fabulous treatment and came to watch me performing at my Thursday Night Live Shows that I hosted in Goa. Here's what she said ....

Elisa India / Peru / USA

I love Charleesa’s music! Takes me back to the Om Sita Soulspace beach shack in Goa, India!

Dancing & singing under the stars is what Charleesa does best. Her songs make me feel like she’s singing for me. Turn up the volume and let’s dance!

*

I also worked on a new project with a very dear friend and fabulous music producer from Austria who is already playing his own creations on radio stations around the world. We are creating brand new tracks in a whole new funky style and have decided to produce more music & even an album together. We have three great songs so far in progress and towards the end of the summer I began a new composition which I added to in November whilst also creating another new number as a special dedication to someone extremely special in my life.

*

So when I see how many things there were to smile about in 2020 - I have to say that I am looking forward to what will be coming this year!

May 2021 bring us all the happiness we desire and the strength to live our dreams whatever the surroundings or whatever comes to challenge us.

For we have the Power to Dream, Smile & keep on Climbing!

It is as it always has been, within us <3

Sometimes it seems its hiding however we only need to find it <3

2nd Place Winner

After entering a competition in the Vocalists and Singers Facebook group recently, and getting the information of the results this weekend, I am delighted to share the news that I came in at 2nd place with my entry!

*Virtual Tip Jar*

I created a new 'Virtual Tip Jar' for all monetary gifts that you would like to give to me which support me as an artist and even help me to buy new backing tracks for cover songs that I want to perform so that they sound really great!

I do my live concerts to provide fun, happy vibes and entertainment with my singing and dancing bringing the sunshine into your window & the power into your house with love. I get great rewards by seeing friends, family members & new watchers at each session.

When I get hearts and beautiful comments it fills my heart with a warm fuzzy feeling too. As an artist bringing out a debut album and working from home office having a tip jar is very supportive, its like going on stage although its from home and so tipping into my hat works just the same way!

I put the link to my Virtual Tip Jar in the title of each live video on Facebook, the money goes straight to my PayPal account. Tips for my shows can be given using this link: paypal.me/charleesa 🎁 All gifts are highly appreciated 😊 Your presence is always valued & love is sent in return with all my heart 💚

I got a really lovely surprise when Annelie Andersson gave me 20GBP after one session so I bought the track for Paolo Nutini’s wonderful and uplifting song ‘New Shoes’ and sang it at the next show; its now become one of the latest editions to my set list.

As I work behind the scenes finishing my album I can sing all my current releases and those as yet unreleased officially and make performances from my studio space.

I can also keep everyone up to date on what's coming up next from me and still have fun performing for you all. I appreciate and value everyone with or without receiving tips for my art ... though as they say every little helps! I thank you in advance for your continued support & love <3

New Interview by Musicboostit

I was interviewed by Instagram magazine Musicboostit

They asked me some really interesting and funny questions like......

Do you sing in the shower? What songs?

''Oh yes I love singing in the shower! Great acoustics usually!''

''It’s very random depending on what comes to me really, might be one of my own songs especially when I am working on a new one like now or it could be a song by someone else that I love. I have a very eclectic music taste from different genres and eras, songs by Florence and the Machine or Lamb are great for the bath however I have been known to sing Fame in the shower if I am really honest! ''

''I can really sing almost anywhere these days though it wasn’t always that way, something changed and now I will simply sing when the mood takes me. Because I compose my songs by singing them first, I could be seen walking down the street singing into my phone and sometimes I get this stream of songs in my head and I sing them out; I call it Charleesa FM and occasionally I even have listeners''

*

I loved taking time to answer their questions and really enjoyed the process

To find out more about me and the music I make, you can read the full interview on their page:

* Live On Facebook! *

You may have seen me 'Going Live' on Instagram & now I am giving free concerts on Facebook so that my followers can tune in on either platform and watch 30 mins of me happily performing for everyone!

I decided to send out more love, light & all things bright especially at this present time when we can all benefit from some fun & smiles.

Remembering that we are all one, whatever I give to you I also get in return and vice versa; so when I sing I get joy and so do you :)

With the same theory - I also created a way to receive love in the form of money so I now have a Virtual Tip Jar <3

When you click on this : paypal.me/charleesa

You will be able to send your gifts straight into my PayPal account during my shows or afterwards, just like one of my SuperFans Annelie Anderson did last week - you might also get your name featured in my next newsletter or get a personal shout out at the show!

I sing different versions of my songs that are available to hear or buy online and from my Music tab on the website plus a few covers of songs that I like to sing or songs with a special meaning that I chose for the show.

I often go completely freestyle and sing my songs in totally new ways, daring to experiment and deliver a real feeling of being part of a one off experience.

Giving you my best sunshine vibrations so its just like being at one of my concerts only broadcasting directly to you wherever you are in the world.

Join myself and my growing group of happy people at my house party for a set of uplifting and empowering music which after the smooth start will then probably make you want to get up and dance around your kitchen, living room, bedroom or wherever you tune in from!

Get yourself in the groove at the next show and feel happy to be aLive with the sound of music.

Join the Lives - Keep your eyes open for events & weekly program posts on my social media

Do you know that you also request to be in the video - just like Ana Taneda did so that I could sing her a song personally. The option is in the comments section when you ra live with me ;)

I value every person who joins the party & wish that you enjoy my lives where new magic happens regularly <3

My Songs in Playlists

How are you all doing ? Feeling the happy vibes from my Live Shows ?

Some of my friends are... in fact they are enjoying listening to my songs so much that they are putting them into their own playlists which makes me feel so honoured

Recently a friend told me ''I love your music - it makes me feel so good - there is something about you that transmits so much peace to me and makes me feel so much better about things''

I take this as a big compliment as I hold my own space within me to provide the power to ''Keep Climbing'' and dancing in my home studio to bring my music to my fans on Instagram Live steams

She put my songs into her playlist on Spotify, and another friend who says that my songs give her strength is streaming my songs on Soundcloud almost daily!

It is one of the best compliments to hear that your music is supporting people & spreading joy around the world <3

So when you want to feel empowered, motivated & remember that there are so many 'things to smile about'

Listen to my songs on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube and share with your friends - every play shows me how my songs are fulfilling people

Head to the music tag of the website & get free download of 'In Sunland' also available from Soundcloud now too

New pics from Aurin Show

These wonderful shots are from the show I performed as a gift to my friend Nura Kassoume owner of Aurin Spaceland for her 15 year anniversary night shopping & celebration evening <3

You can visit her official website here: http://bit.ly/2UMeOYdAurinshop

This is one of my personal favourite places to get fair trade clothing and accessories from designers who pride themselves in creating their wares from organic & natural fabrics. I love the Hempwear and the items made from Bamboo.

The outfit I wore for my artists identity photoshoot came from Aurin and I am proudly still wearing them for shows & networking events today!

The patterned jeans are even reversable, meaning that you could alter your look for the next meeting in a flash and instantly appear to have been in dressing room since your last one without needing such a big wardrobe change! Excellent for someone like me who loves to change things up regularly.

The evening was documented in these beautifully captured images taken by the brilliant Viennese photography artist & friend Tamara Wassermann <3

You can visit her website here: https://www.tamarawassermann.at

Check out the page easily by using the following link and see the gallery of images from other shows including ones from inside various studios:

Enjoy a 'fly on the wall' experience as I sing songs that I love, if you're looking for a few minutes entertainment; you will love my short shows.

Whether it's performing one of my own songs, doing a sing along to a favourite song, sharing my cover version of a song I love or having a practice session & giving you some information - every video will entertain you for around 3 minutes!

During the winter months I decided that this was the best way to give you new videos whilst having fun in my home studio.

I enjoyed finding songs to sing to you, while working on my songs & completing my debut album ready to release this year.

So in the busy age we live in, take a few minutes out whenever you would like to see me & share a moment in my musical world :) If you are into binge watching of course you can do that too and you can also watch my Official Lyric Video for Powerhouse there too!

Enjoy <3

Radio City Mini Show

I am proud to announce that I applied for and was granted a spot on the stage at Radio City during the DIY musicians conference hosted by CD baby. I took to the stage somewhat nervously because performing in front of your colleagues in the music world can be daunting, but I had no need because everyone loved my songs and my performance.

I gave a mini show of three of my songs that are currently available online and being promoted with the full power in my house, the response was that the message was received loud and clear; I am happy as that is my number one aim with these songs.

There was so much talent under one roof! The evening was full of the colour, variety and entertainment; I felt honoured to share the stage with everyone who performed. The feeling of true camaraderie was definatly one of the best things about the evening and as someone who always supports each artist fully, I sure felt the same come back to me; a pure pleasure.

We have all already started to connect with each other and you will be noticing some new followings on my Instagram account, so do be on the look out for anything titled or tagged with cdbaby or DIY musicians conference and watch this space for some amazing new raw talent and possible collaborations coming up.

There are some videos from the evening that will be available to see on my social media platforms so if you follow me there you will see my insider views.

DIY Musicians 2019

What a weekend! I attended this years DIY musicians conference held at Berklee College of Music campus at Palau de le Arts - Reina Sofia and it was wonderful.

Two days full of a wealth of knowledge, new informations and new ideas for how I can grow as an artist this year and how to implement some things that will help me to improve my skills & business. As much as being a singer songwriter & recording artist is my creative mission, it’s also how I want to support my life and this needs a certain level of organisation and at least a slightly serious mindset if you want to succeed.

I made great connections and heard some personal accounts of other artists journeys that I felt very in tune with. I think some collaborations or gig swaps could come from this event and that’s exciting.

I learnt about all kinds of interesting concepts in the world of music of todays modern world of digital sharing platforms and the move further away from physical forms. Although there it is a great feeling to be be able to purchase a cd or vinyl and have something physical in your hand to keep, the fact is that we are heading rapidly towards much more online consumption and this is something we as artists and creative people understand and recognise.

I was most intrigued to hear about the world of music in gaming, it was really inspiring to hear what is possible and how your music can be used in a new style of interactive games where the users their own build festivals or concerts. I also heard more about hologram shows some of worlds most renowned artists who have now transitioned are already making sell out tours! Kind of crazy to wrap your head around but people are keen to buy tickets to see their favourite artist as a holographic vision on stage. This opens up a whole new topic of discussions but any way you look at it, this is a way that a deceased artists family will continue earn money from their art, an interesting concept in any case.

There was a lot to learn and I am sure that it will take some time to settle in but there are some wonderful new ways to provide content and lots of new ideas have been sparked in my creative synapsis, so watch this space for what’s coming up in my world over the next few months.

Brand New Cards

I made some new business cards, I did the designing myself and I am very happy with the outcome. I love the bold symbols and I think that now the pictures are a visual aid to my brand of motivating, empowering, inspiring music made with love and sent out with a glittery kiss to you all.

The photographs were made for me by a friend of mine, Sigrid Mayer of Some Velvet Morning and the hair and make up artist for the shoot was another friend Christine Akbaba.

Check out the website of Some Velvet Morning to see some of their the projects: http://www.somevelvetmorning.at

It was such fun to make the session in my garden where I lived at the time and was a joint idea to create these looks, I think that they show my personality extremely well and I love to have cards that show me laughing.

You will see that the photo on the front of the card is the same one that is now my profile picture on all of my social media platforms and is the face of my website so it made sense to have that also as the first impression someone gets when I hand them a card, and so far everybody who has seen them loves them <3

Smiley Dayz Playlist

Head on over to Spotify now and listen to the spring playlist Smiley Dayz for the audio soundtrack to that happy feeling we get when the season changes!

If you read my last blog about the You Are Love playlist then you already know why I create these collections.

If you didn't, you can go back and read it, or use this link: https://charleesa.com/home/blog/you-are-love-playlist

'Things To Smile About' by Charleesa is the first song in this list because it sets the tone for the month.

Can you hear the 'birds a singing high in the trees'? Do you see the 'grass so green' ? Are you looking forward to the delight of the 'prettiest flowers that you've ever seen' as the buds start to show up all over the gardens?

Wake up to the sound of this country style pop number created in Vienna and released in July 2018.

Enjoy the happy vibe as you move on to the next jolly songs in the playlist and remember that if the rain should fall just a little more before the summer; to get out your umbrellas and take shelter until you can dance int he streets again!

'Smile' because you can, be 'Happy' because life's truly wonderful! 'And The Beat Goes On' as you start to feel joyful.

Darin Jellison a member of my pod created by Jacqueline Jax of A.V.A Live Radio brings you his song 'I Know I' with lots of good intention.

'La Isla Bonita' by Madonna was my soundtrack last October when I went to Ibiza for the first time and loved it!

I love the song 'My People' and it is in the playlist because it has a great uplifting vibration and message so it also fits to own brand of music.

Have 'High Hope' and keep 'Keeping Your Head Up' as you put some 'New Shoes' on. The mood is improving and you are brightening up can you 'Feel It Still' ? Go on you 'Shiney Happy People' go and 'Put Your Records On' ! 'Smile' again and look up to the sky, it's blue and 'Clear As Water'

The song from George Ezra called 'Shotgun' is bouncy and has that feel good vibe that everyone loves. If you've seen the video you know that it's about travelling around and has lots of beaches in it - I loved it when I watched it and that's why it in the list.

'Over The Rainbow' is there because, well because it's beautiful and also because it is one of my Mum's favourite songs. Did you notice that my song 'Things To Smile About' says Feat: Slinky? Well that's actually my Mum! She narrates at the end of the song and that's why I have added the song by Judy Garland to this list.

I love 'Three Little Birds' and it always makes me happy so that's also in this list along with 'Dont Worry Be Happy' which is really an obvious choice.

Taking a step back in the list 'My Favourite Things' sung by Connie Fisher is there because, well because it's from one of my favourite musicals 'The Sound Of Music' of course!

The film which is set in Austria has been one of those films that I watched more than once throughout my life, it was shown on television at Christmas time and I saw it just before I came to live in Vienna.

I love every song in the film and even use 'Doe A Deer' to warm up sometimes, my Mum and I sang it very often at home together too - I think she actually introduced me to the film in the first place. I went to Salzburg a couple of years ago where the musical was filmed & vowed to take my Mum there with me sometime, I think it would be a fantastic place to shoot a music video for my song 'Keep Climbing' too!

Sooooooo I hope that you enjoy hearing the playlist, whether it's from the very start or on shuffle. I wish you a happy feeling and for a smile to cross your face more than once & maybe you will even sing along to some of the songs. If you find a new artist to follow because of my list then that's even better.

Remember that if you love it, maybe one of your friends will too; so pass it along and make someone feel great today.

You Are Love Playlist

Go over to Spotify and listen to my Powerhouse playlist You Are Love now to get some strength today.

Self love & empowerment in a playlist! The playlist starts with my song and takes you on an audio journey of songs that will remind you just how wonderful you are and how to be the light, be amazing and keep on top of your day.
I hope that you like my Juke box style collection of music that I think is brilliant. If you were to ask my Mum or anyone who has lived with me, they would tell you how often I sang my favourite songs like a radio mash up! Snippets of songs sometimes just pop into my head and I can't help myself but sing them out loud as I enjoy remembering the ones that come up. That's why I have decided to make these playlists with themes that relate my own songs with which they begin. Enjoy listening to my radio :)

Music is the soundtrack to our lives and I want to encourage, motivate and inspire with my own music. It seems fitting to create a list of songs in various genres as this is how I am making my own debut album. My own musical taste is very eclectic and the artists that have inspired me throughout my life come from all kinds of different genres.

If you have read my *biography you will already know that I have a passion for sounds from iconic pop artists such as Madonna, Kate Bush & Nina Simone but each new artist in the field also add new elements to the genre that continue to move me.

Lady Gaga being one of the biggest artists of our time who dares to show her flair without a thought for who may or may not like her style or dress sense. I love her boldness and her voice and I think that the collaboration with another of my favourite female singers currently hitting the charts with amazing songs, Florence Welch is a super combination. 'Hey Girl' is a wonderful song to sing along to with your best friend when you are getting ready to go out on the town or to send to her when she needs a boost because she has something going on in her life where she needs a friend to give her support. If you can relate to this, why not send that special woman in your life this playlist; to show her how much she means to you. She could be your girlfriend, your Mother, your Auntie, your cousin or your bestie!

I discovered the song 'Nina cried power' by Hozier by chance whilst surfing through YouTube videos when looking for examples of videos I liked to send to my video producer. I liked the name and I pressed play and I am sooooo glad that I did. I love the video and it made me cry, as happens so often when I am moved by watching performers; whether it's on stage or in a video! The emotional response of each artist as they listen to the finished recording in the headphones in the video was very touching to me, I know that feeling; when you hear the result of your efforts and it's just awesome.

Nina Simone was an awesome singer and powerful woman even though she often faced challenges in her personal life. 'Feeling Good' is one of my all time favourite songs to sing, I sang it with my band in England and it's my go-to song when I need a soulful boost. If you would like to hear my version of this song, watch my Weekend Session video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/3L4bwj2vA6c

'Vienna' by Billy Joel was an obvious choice for me because that's where I live now. I moved here for love and for music, it was one of my best decisions. I have grown so much as an artist since I decided to relocate and I have a lot of wonderful connections in the music scene here. Even though I have had some troubles along the way, I have made amazing progress and whenever I need to remember that; I play Powerhouse to myself!

Patti LaBelle tells us how she has a 'New Attitude' in her groovy song which is why I chose to add it next to the playlist. As you 'Move on Up' you 'Raise your Vibration' as you know that 'You've Got The Love' to see you through and that you will get through 'Tomorrow' every day. I saw Jaime Woon one night in Brighton to celebrate my birthday, I got to talk to him after the show; well rather I swooned as we talked! Starstruck by him and in a daze of stardom!

'Rise' & 'Shine On' both fit very well to my own brand of motivating music that I had to include them in this empowerment playlist.

Just like 'Road To My Soul' by Lady C Universe which is in this playlist for a special reason. She created the single cover for the released of my song 'Powerhouse' for me in December 2018. I love the sparkling edges of the photograph that she made and as my gift to her I added her wonderful song to the mix.

'Powerhouse' by Planning To Rock was another song that I found when I put my song title into the search bar on Spotify when showing someone where they could find me on the platform. I had to add this to the list, didn't I!

'You Have The Power To Share The Light' and 'Wonderful You' speak for themselves - hear the message & know that you are strong, you have heart & you are love.

'Keep On Moving' reminds me of my own song, 'Keep Climbing' it's not yet released but available to hear on Soundcloud.

Sending 'Power To The People' is one of my missions with my own music so this was really suitable for this collection.

'Don't Give Up' because it's a 'Wonderful World' and if you need me 'I'll Be There' as Jess Glynne sings. How will I be there for you? Well just put the playlist on and you will feel ready to take on your day!

Welshley Arms reminds us to 'Learn To Let Go' & Sahida Apsara tells us to remember that we are a 'Radiant Star'

MC YOGI is a perfect peaceful way to end the list, with 'Windows' so if the sun is shinning open yours and feel the breeze blowing the wind of change in! Then go out there to walk in the world with your head held high! Because you are a star, you should know!

Have a wonderful life and do amazing things <3

GOT Website Feature

Whilst walking through the Christmas market in Vienna in December 2018 I found some interesting new artwork on display in an archway connecting the streets of the market. In a small gallery I saw several hooded figures called 'Guardians Of Time' created by Manfred Kielnhofer.

I loved the figures which represent mankind inevitable journey towards unescapable destination, I especially liked the way that they had been set up in the main window; all positioned together around a table with cups and saucers to look as though they were having a somewhat serious tea party. Of course being an English lady who loves a good cuppa, the scene really caught my eye & I looked at all of the figures in the space.

I talked with Manfred a little and just before saying goodbye the thought struck me to give him one of my business cards with the advert on the reverse for my summer hit song 'Things to smile about' telling him that the song was happy, uplifting & almost sure to bring a smile to his face. He looked at the card, smiled, thought for a moment and then asked me if I would be interested in being featured on his website holding one of the guardians.

Here is the link to the feature: https://www.guardians-of-time.club/blog/things-to-smile-about

Visit their shop: https://www.guardians-of-time.club/shop and take a little time to look through the gallery for wonderful designs and where they could be used.

I am always keen to support artists and products that I feel drawn to or connected to particularly when they are resonate with me or my brand. If you are reading this and would like me to become an ambassador for one of your creations, use the contact form and get in touch with me; perhaps it will be the start of a beautiful collaboration.

An insight into Charleesa's musical world, about her influences, writing process & how she stays warm and happy throughout the winter season.

*** Powerhouse is a song about the force that we all have inside of us, our body is our house where we reside in this life; it encourages us the let the light shine out of our soul and radiate out into the world. ***

'' I was unsure but as I started to sing the first song my fears melted away as it just seemed to flow. Everyone in the audience loved my songs and the way we jammed, just as I about to thank everyone in attendance and leave the stage they shouted encore; so I thought okay I’ll try out the new song even though it was unfinished! Wedding Singing

I had the privilege and honour to sing a few of my songs at friends Jonas & Louise's wedding ceremony in Ibiza this October. I sang my own cover version of 'We got family' by Templecloud and then two of my own songs including the encore of my song 'Powerhouse' which is now also playing online at WOS radio (Women of Substance Radio) in a playlist in the 'Music with a conscience' segment.

It was a lovely sunny day perfect for a very beautiful service in a glorious setting overlooking the island of Es Vedra & a lovely dinner with heart-warming speaches after my performance.

The response to my upbeat style and positive messages was truely wonderful and the dancing by the bride and her father was a super compliment & confirmation that my songs move people! :)

'Things to smile about' OUT NOW

I am proud to announce that the latest single release taken from my forthcoming debut album is now available on all online platforms such as cdbaby where it is hosted, iTunes, Amazon, Googleplay and many more.

I wrote the song in India one sunny afternoon at my apartment after a day at the beach, it was one of those moments when you realise that there is so much beauty in the world and so much of it is a gift from nature that we so often take for granted.

''Bird's a singing high in the trees, prettiest flowers that I've ever seen'' {Lyrics from the song (c)}

I met Vitthal Claes Svedberg a great guitarist in Goa and told him about my music , I explained that I would like someone to play with me & then record the song in the studio. We made a practice session at his house near the beach, I sang the song to him and gave him the printed lyrics; he then played my melody on the guitar and together we built up the sound of the music. It flowed well and we practiced a few more times before performing it live at Dylan's Coffee house, then I took him to the studio in Assagoa I was using and layed down the track in one session; I loved the outcome and he enjoyed his first studio recording session.

I uploaded the song to my Soundcloud account where I had put the acoustic versions of my songs and the response was great. Later when creating my debut album of motivating, inspiring, empowering music in Vienna, it was clear to me that this would be one of the songs to be re-recorded in my current direction of positve pop music.

I had the idea to write a narrative for the end of the song being inspired by memories of watching classic old western movies at my grandparents house after school as a child. At the end of the film perhaps after the shootout or as the characters made their final act or as the cowboy got the girl, there would usually be a round up of the story spoken over the last scenes as they rode off into the sunset. I arranged for my Mum to come to visit me in Vienna and took her into the studio after a couple of trial run throughs at home, I knew that she would do a perfect job of being the reader at the end to finish the song as she has always been great at getting into character when reading stories to me, she really loved being in the studio and being a part of my song. I am very happy to have a memory for a lifetime of her voice on my track and being in the studio with her because she had always been my greatest supporter and we spent many wonderful moments singing songs together when I was growing up.

The song which has been featured on A.V.A Live Radio an online radio station based in America on their New Music Monday session and recieved great comments has now been submitted to two other online radio stations for playing next month. There is a video in editing stage which will be released in September and uploaded to my YouTube channel.

Simply type the name Charleesa or 'Things to smile about' into google seach engine to find me at your preferred platform or press the Buy Now on the homepage to get your copy of this happy making song or stream it on Spotify or find it on YouTube.

Album Production Update May 2018

Half way through the production of my debut album ......

Song number 5 was recorded last month and is called 'Things To Smile About' - a happy song which reminds us to stop and think about all the good things there are in life that keep us smiling; though the weather may decline we get out our brollies and shelter from the rain until we can dance in the streets again.

The song has a narrative at the end written by myself and is spoken by Slinky - my Mum :)

''This was a fantastic way to do something wonderful with your talented Mum that will last forever - a piece of memorable art immortalised as it were. Mum has always had a skill for becoming a character and story telling so it seemed like the perfect fit to have her, my creator and biggest lifelong supporter; recorded on this song.''

The song will featured at the end of the album to round up the whole package and message that is the intention of empowerment, encouragement & motivation that is my concept for this collection.

Street shows in Vienna

The time for street performance is well underway and so far the experience has been good.

I have performed twice now in Stadtpark at two different spots and recieved smiles from onlookers, a little girl came to watch and dance along, a 5euro bill as donation & enjoyed being outside singing my songs in the sunshine for people.

I have support from friends who come to see me perform songs they love which gives me great pleasure.

I have some more great spots this month so perhaps you will catch me out and about.

My website is up and running now and you can sign up to my mailinglist to recieve your free digital download of my song Keep Climbing Gypsy Jazz Version which was recorded in Goa with Joe Ferrao on guitar at Studio 52 by Noel 'Nini' Da Souza. The song has now been reproduced in a different sytle ready for my debut album and is simply titled Climbing.

Also my Youtube channel now requires some new subscribers to reach the goal of the 100 subscribers in order to be able to claim my own url as my artist name Charleesa instead of numbers after the Youtube.com. I would be honoured to have your support to reach the 100, you can see a couple of videos now of live performances and get ready for something new coming soon .........

As always I send you love, light and all things bright <3

#charleesastreetsound

Last weekend was a public holiday long weekend in Vienna and I was lucky enough to have been given on of the best spots in the city to perform at Graben in the 1st district :)

I sang my own songs from the forthcoming debut album plus a few cover songs and utilised the staue in the centre of the square as a makeshift stage.

There were plenty of people who seemed to enjoy the performance, stopping to take photographs or just to listen and I also recieved some wonderful exchange donations that are a support to my creation process and a motiavtion to my morale. I caught a few smiles from the onlookers and some beautiful wide eyed grins from small children, which is always a pleasure for me.

In the weeks before I had also made my first attempt at the street shows in the Mariahilferstrasse in the 7th district. It was a brief rendition of five songs and although the response was not as good as it was at Graben, I did catch the attention of a young girl who danced along to the music and gave me the biggest rewarding smile I could wish for.

I will have some more spots this month so if you see me out and about singing my happy songs in the sunshine then do flash me your pretty smiles and feel free to take photographs.

Be sure to add the hash tag #charleesastreetsound to your posts as this will show up for me and I will know that you liked what you heard :)

Maybe we will see each other out in the city, until then I wish you love, light & all things bright <3

Project Growing

The past months during the winter time in Europe have been spent in full devotion to my debut album project and to music in general. Hours have been spent designing and accquiring costumes for each song for the album, reworking, rewriting and recording and/or rerecording the songs with poptastic flavours replacing the accoustic feelings they once had in previous versions & genrally preparing for Charleesa's sound to fill the ears of a thousand listeners!

It requires a lot of hard work to bring your skills upto date for the studio and the stage & to take your ideas from the drawing board or university type design book to life through photography sessions and future music videos. All of this needs time to plan and contemplate and the best moments to do this come when you are alone and in peace with yourself.

I have enrolled in the Female Musicians Acadamy which had already offered a wealth of information and given me a structure which can at least on part be followed to help regain some control over a scattered artistic types creative mind-field !

I have also been studying the way other artists present themselves on media platforms and on stage to get some ideas for my own shows and online presence; endless hours have been spent scanning Youtube listening to new music of the current times and also revisiting that music which inpired me when I was growing up and discovering the genres that influenced me.

I have found a brilliant graphic designer who has helped me to create a super new artists logo that is featured on my online platforms and started to create a more advanced online personna that any artsy type requires when working in todays climate of technological music placement and promotion.

At the same time I have working away for hours in the studio recording my vocals, rearranging my song formats, co-creating the perfect sounds to bring the lyrics to life and to support my vocals & desgning the feel of my debut album masterpiece.

After many years I am finally realising my dream of producing material to inspire people that they can relate to and sing along to. To able to take the stages alone and perform my own songs with the aid of professional studio recorded playbacks and have the music for musicians to follow so as to accompany live at events is something great that I have achieved with the help of others. I am at this point half way through the albums production and have released my first summer hit 'In Sunland' offically online for digital download.

This winter time has been full of work but it has also been full of growth personally and musically that has been invaluable in energy as it has been in money.

Looking forward to getting out on the streets of Vienna and UK this spring/summer to spread my messages of motivation and empowerment to elevate people and wishfully get some new fans - see you out there !!!

Spring into action

How wonderful is the time when the weather changes and the sun comes back out for our delight :) The blossom has come out and the early flowers of the year bring beautiful, colourful highlights to the various shades of green around the hills of the valleys and gardens of each city oasis. Now is the time to spread your wings and fluff your feathers, for you can come out from your winter cave; feel the warmth in your body and flash your smiles at each other like a camera on a catwalk.

Yesterday was such a gorgeous day which I spent out in my garden making test shooting for new live performance videos being created for my new Youtube channel. Preparations are underway for an official music video for my next release coming soon and whilst trying out different spots to film in, it also bought some new ideas to mind for expression of concepts for the screen.

Taking one big step out into the light this May, people in Vienna might catch a glimpse of me singing some of my uplifting songs in the streets or parks this summer.

So keep your eyes peeled for some visual treats appearing shortly and you never know we might even see each other in the sunshine.
